Private Transvaginal Ultrasound Scan from £199

A transvaginal ultrasound uses a small ultrasound probe placed in the vagina, with the patient's informed consent, to obtain detailed images of the uterus, ovaries and nearby pelvic structures.

Pricing from £199

What can a transvaginal ultrasound scan assess?

The internal approach can provide closer views of pelvic organs than an abdominal scan in some circumstances. It does not diagnose every cause of symptoms, and additional tests may be required.

Why might a clinician recommend this scan?

  • Assessment of pelvic pain
  • Investigation of abnormal uterine bleeding
  • Assessment of suspected ovarian cysts or fibroids
  • Further evaluation of selected pelvic findings

How to prepare

Instructions will be provided before the appointment. The procedure should be explained and performed only with informed consent; you can ask questions or decline or stop the examination at any time.

Safety and limitations

Ultrasound uses no ionising radiation. Whether a transvaginal examination is appropriate depends on the clinical question, individual circumstances and consent.

Ultrasound uses sound waves and does not use ionising radiation.

How does it compare with other scans?

An abdominal pelvic ultrasound or other investigations may be considered depending on symptoms and preferences. The clinician can explain the options.

More than a scan: doctor-led care before and after

Your scan is part of a supported care pathway. You do not need to arrange your own referral.

Before your scan: GP consultation

Discuss your symptoms, medical history and concerns with a GP. This helps you understand whether the scan is appropriate and what the examination is intended to investigate. If imaging is clinically appropriate, PrivateScans arranges the referral as part of the process.

After your scan: understand the report

Your images are reviewed and reported by a Consultant Radiologist. Your post-scan GP consultation gives you an opportunity to discuss the report in context, ask questions and understand possible next steps.
