Private Neck Ultrasound Scan from £199

A neck ultrasound assesses superficial structures in the neck, including lymph nodes, salivary glands and soft-tissue lumps. The examination can be targeted to the area of concern.

Pricing from £199

What can a neck ultrasound scan assess?

Ultrasound shows superficial soft tissues in real time and can help characterise lumps. It does not assess every deep neck structure or replace examination of symptoms such as swallowing or voice changes.

Why might a clinician recommend this scan?

  • Assessment of a neck lump or enlarged lymph node
  • Investigation of selected salivary gland problems
  • Review of superficial cysts or other soft-tissue findings
  • Further assessment of a palpable abnormality

How to prepare

Usually no special preparation is required. Wear clothing that leaves the neck accessible and tell the team where you have noticed the lump or symptoms.

Safety and limitations

Ultrasound uses no ionising radiation. A persistent or growing neck lump, difficulty swallowing or breathing, or other concerning symptoms should receive timely clinical assessment.

Ultrasound uses sound waves and does not use ionising radiation.

How does it compare with other scans?

CT or MRI may be required for deeper structures or when more extensive assessment is needed. The best test depends on the location and symptoms.

More than a scan: doctor-led care before and after

Your scan is part of a supported care pathway. You do not need to arrange your own referral.

Before your scan: GP consultation

Discuss your symptoms, medical history and concerns with a GP. This helps you understand whether the scan is appropriate and what the examination is intended to investigate. If imaging is clinically appropriate, PrivateScans arranges the referral as part of the process.

After your scan: understand the report

Your images are reviewed and reported by a Consultant Radiologist. Your post-scan GP consultation gives you an opportunity to discuss the report in context, ask questions and understand possible next steps.
