Private Breast Ultrasound Scan from £199

Breast ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to examine breast tissue. It may be used to investigate a breast lump or localised symptoms, often alongside clinical assessment and other breast imaging when appropriate.

Pricing from £199

What can a breast ultrasound scan assess?

Ultrasound can show whether a finding is fluid-filled or solid and can guide further assessment. It cannot rule out every breast cancer and may be used alongside mammography or other investigations depending on age, symptoms and clinical assessment.

Why might a clinician recommend this scan?

  • Assessment of a palpable breast lump
  • Investigation of focal breast pain or a localised area of concern
  • Further assessment of a finding seen on another examination
  • Distinguishing fluid-filled cysts from solid areas in suitable cases

How to prepare

Follow your appointment instructions. Wear a two-piece outfit if convenient and tell the clinician about any previous breast imaging, surgery or current symptoms.

Safety and limitations

Ultrasound uses no ionising radiation. A new breast lump, nipple inversion, bloody nipple discharge or skin change should receive prompt clinical assessment; imaging alone is not a substitute for assessment.

Ultrasound uses sound waves and does not use ionising radiation.

How does it compare with other scans?

Mammography and ultrasound provide different information and are sometimes used together. The appropriate pathway depends on age, symptoms and clinical findings.

More than a scan: doctor-led care before and after

Your scan is part of a supported care pathway. You do not need to arrange your own referral.

Before your scan: GP consultation

Discuss your symptoms, medical history and concerns with a GP. This helps you understand whether the scan is appropriate and what the examination is intended to investigate. If imaging is clinically appropriate, PrivateScans arranges the referral as part of the process.

After your scan: understand the report

Your images are reviewed and reported by a Consultant Radiologist. Your post-scan GP consultation gives you an opportunity to discuss the report in context, ask questions and understand possible next steps.
