Muscle & recovery
These markers provide information about muscle and bone health and can help place exercise-related muscle stress and recovery into context.
Adjusted calcium
Adjusted calcium estimates the calcium level after allowing for the amount of albumin in the blood. It helps give a more meaningful assessment of calcium balance when albumin is high or low.
Calcium
Calcium is essential for bones and teeth as well as muscle contraction, nerve signalling and heart function. Abnormal levels can be linked to parathyroid, kidney, vitamin D and other disorders.
Creatine kinase (CK)
Creatine kinase is an enzyme concentrated in muscle. It can rise after strenuous exercise or muscle injury and is useful when assessing muscle damage and recovery.
Urate (uric acid)
Urate is produced when the body breaks down purines. Persistently high levels can lead to urate-crystal formation and gout and may also be influenced by kidney function, diet and medicines.
Sodium
Sodium is a major electrolyte involved in fluid balance, blood pressure, nerve signalling and muscle function. Abnormal levels can occur with dehydration, kidney problems, hormonal disorders and some medicines.
