How does it work?Progesterone rises after ovulation, so measuring it at the appropriate point in the menstrual cycle can help confirm whether ovulation has occurred. For a regular 28-day cycle, testing is commonly timed around day 21; with an irregular cycle, timing is usually based on the expected next period.
Progesterone may also be measured for other clinical reasons, including selected fertility investigations and monitoring during pregnancy. Results depend heavily on timing, cycle length and clinical context, so interpretation should take these factors into account.
