How does it work?This quantitative beta-hCG test measures the pregnancy hormone human chorionic gonadotropin in blood. Blood testing can detect low levels of hCG and is therefore useful for confirming pregnancy at an early stage.
During early pregnancy, beta-hCG usually rises over time, so repeat measurements may sometimes be used clinically to assess the pattern of change. The quantitative result can provide a broad indication of gestational stage, although normal ranges are wide and the test cannot precisely date a pregnancy on its own. Unexpected results should be discussed with an appropriate healthcare professional.
