What can I expect from Coeliac/Gluten Sensitivity Profile?

This profile measures antibodies associated with the body's immune response to gluten. It can support the investigation of coeliac disease, where exposure to gluten triggers an immune reaction that can damage the lining of the small intestine.

The profile includes deamidated gliadin IgG, Immunoglobulin A (IgA) and tissue transglutaminase IgA. Results should be interpreted alongside symptoms, diet and clinical assessment, because blood testing forms part of — rather than replaces — a formal diagnosis.

What gets tested?

The biomarkers included in this profile are grouped below so you can see exactly what is being assessed.

Immunology

This group measures immune-system antibodies associated with the body's response to gluten and is used as part of the investigation of coeliac disease and gluten sensitivity.

Gliadin antibodies (IgG, deamidated)

This test measures IgG antibodies against deamidated gliadin peptides, components related to gluten. It can support assessment for coeliac disease, particularly when interpreted with other coeliac serology and clinical findings.

Immunoglobulin A (IgA)

IgA is an antibody found in blood and mucosal surfaces. Measuring total IgA is useful in coeliac testing because IgA deficiency can make some antibody tests falsely negative.

Tissue transglutaminase IgA (tTG-IgA)

tTG-IgA is one of the main antibody tests used when screening for coeliac disease. A raised result supports further clinical assessment, but diagnosis is based on the overall clinical picture and may require additional tests.

How do I read my results?

Laboratory results are provided with reference ranges which are based on the normal test results of a large group of healthy people from the same age group and gender as yourself.

Sometimes, healthy people get results outside the reference range, while people with health problems can have results in the normal range. If your results fall outside the reference range, or if you have symptoms despite a normal result, you may require more testing or wish to discuss the result with your GP. Alternatively you can book an appointment with one of our Private GP for £49 if you would like to discuss your results in more detail.

For simplicity, we provided your results graphically, so they are easy to understand. Any result flagged amber is outside of the standard range. Normal results are in green.
